Student Service Learning Opportunities
Student service learning is a vital part of education. It is through student service learning that one learns what it is to give back to their community. Students must complete 75 hours of community service as a part of their graduation requirements. Fortunately, students can earn 45 of those hours while completing various grade level projects in middle school science (6th), social studies (7th), and ELA (8th). Hours are only rewarded in full and only upon the satisfactory completion of the grade level projects.
Our 8th grade students are afforded the opportunity to earn hours outside the regular school day and in addition to those that are offered from within ELA. Any 8th grade student wishing to earn these hours must obtain a pre-approval signature from Mrs. Beall, prior to starting. Failure to do so will result in the denial of those hours. No exceptions will be made. Upon request, the guidance office will provide these students with a yellow student service learning form. Hours must be completed at an approved location and signed off upon by the person in charge of the volunteer location. Students must fully complete the back of their yellow student service learning volunteer log. Upon filling their card, students may submit to the guidance office. Hours will be entered into the system and cards will become part of the student’s record.
Established policy stipulates what cannot be counted as service learning:
